Austin’s Only Remaining Log House on Its Original Site

The Moore-Hancock Farmstead, built in 1849, showcases Austin's only remaining log house on its original site. The complex also contains the original rock summer kitchen with a root cellar and hand-excavated well and small log barn.

Visitation

Visiting the Farmstead

Several times a year, the Farmstead is open to the public: the last Sunday in February to celebrate Black History Month and often a weekend in October.
At other times, groups may visit by appointment.

The Farmstead needs docents to help visitors fully appreciate their visit. Folks who are history buffs as well as those who enjoy archaeology or architecture find being docents here a rewarding kind of community giveback.
